Thoughtless Acts

Thoughtless Acts is a relatively new little book from Jane Fulton Suri and in partnership with IDEO. Jane Fulton Suri is worldwide Director of Human Factors Design and Research at IDEO, and much of the content for the book has been attributed to a life long view of the world, and taking note of the things which interest her.

The front and largest section of the book is a pretty interesting view of the world in Jane’s eyes, literally. Through the lens of her camera are around 150 pages of photos. An observation of the world through her eyes. These pictures convey some of the ‘thoughtless acts’ which we do without even thinking twice. The ways we act and the things we do, sometimes even unconciously.

The images are great little visual notes and observations of the ways we interact. In the back of the book, at around 20 pages is a few short examples of the way that IDEO use observation in their work, one of the key features in the design process. A great little help to bind some of the content together firmly.

Take all the time you want with this little book, for you can spend as long as you like sifting though each page, looking for clues, suggestive moments, unique ideas or something which might jog a memory.

A great little read, and a nice long peer through other people’s ‘thoughtless acts’
