Have you got an invention?

Degree Show Flyer
Trevor Baylis and I

Back in 2004 at my degree show i had the chance to meet Trevor Baylis. He had been a viting lecturer in the technology department for a while at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College and during the degree show he chose to give an award to the most innovative student at the degree show.

Unfortunately I think he either mis-understood my project, or was too tired from trawling around the entire show before arriving within the 3D Design studio. So i didnt get the award. But just meeting the man famed for inventing the wind-up radio is a great thing.

When Trevor invented the radio, he had an unlucky ride during the process of taking the product to market. I believe that he didn’t manage to keep any of the Intellectual Property for the idea and was left with less than the idea was worth. So in that instance, a little while ago he set-up a company which helps give people with inventions the chance to secure the rights to their ideas!

Trevor Baylis Brands is there for anyone to get some advice on how to proceed into an area which can be quite complicated.

They even have an inventor pack which can be downloaded in the form of a word document. Click here for the inventor pack.

If you would like help then the process is simple.

What to Do Next

1. Please do not disclose your idea to anyone unless you have obtained or have applied for patent or design protection, as this can cause problems in the future; even then, only discuss it under a non-disclosure agreement.
2. Write a description of your idea, stating what it is, what it does, and the problem, if any, that it solves. We need sufficient detail for us to understand and evaluate it.
3. Make a sketch if you feel it is needed.
4. If you already have any relevant documents such as a Patent or Patent Application please enclose copies.
5. Insert your details in the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) included in the Inventor Pack and then print out two copies of it. Sign it at the bottom of each copy. Do not date the agreement. We will do that when we sign it. We’ve included an example in the pack. Do not return the example.

So if you’ve got an idea, take a trip over to Trevor Baylis Brands and see how they can help you!
