As a freak accident, i found myself in a Barklays bank recently. Now, i’m not one for usually straying from the two banks i generally frequent, and how i got there isn’t really important. What I found there struck me as a little odd.
Barclays will take your old mobile phone off of you and then donate “up to £10″ to the Woodland Trust. This sounds great, i can get rid of my old crappy phone, which was up-to-date technology last week and Barclays will give some of the value away to charity. I’m all for this kind of donating to charity, organisations or a worthy cause.
The part I don’t understand is that if i sold my mobile phone on eBay, traded it in to get value off of a new phone, cashed it in for an upgrade, sold it to a friend or many other methods I could make more money for the Woodland Trust. The last time I checked, Orange were offering £50, and there was a reasonable price on eBay for used phones.
So think twice before you leap into Barclays programme. There may be a better way to make more money for those beloved organisations out there!
