As far as podcasts go, i probably tend to download much more than I actually listen to. When i’m at home i tend to want to relax and listen to some music which i know sets off a certain mood. When i’m at work i try and pump something into my ear which i find reasonably occupying, and which has enough of a constant rythem to drown out the noise of people walking up and down the laminate wood office flooring, the clump of server switches and hubs in the corner, people on the phone and the temporary road works outside the window on the busy road. But when i have a minute or 30 to myself and i feel like getting down and learning something, I often pull up a podcast.
The podcast which is usually on the top of the pile and is delivered straight into my iTunes podcast directory is the KCRW DnA - Design and Architecture. Frances Anderton hosts the show, and although her british accent might fool you, the show is based in the USA. This does not restrict the content, as listeners will know. They range from Architects, Fashion Guru’s, Designers and Artists.
Each podcast is entirely focused upon the title and usually lasts around thirty minutes. The issues covered are very hot topic and cover contemporary issues at the forefront of current design discussion. Hurricaine Katrina, Billie Haines, Nomadic Museums, Paul Smith, Prefabrication and the meaning of “camp” are just a few interesting offerings from the podcast. Each one is engaging and as interesting as the previous.
So if you have a spare 30 minutes during your day, take a moment to check out one of the finest podcasts I have had the pleasure of listening to.
